I'm a lucky gal. I have just spent 3 weeks in sunny West Palm Beach, Florida teaching voice technique, styles and audition technique to a group of 70 young music theatre die-hards! If you are not familiar with this program, please look it up. Broadway veterans Jason Gilman and Jackie Bayne Gilman, alongside Greg Graham, Nadine Isenegger and Steve Freeman, have developed a wonderful "3 week Intensive" for local/commuter and out-of-town students to immerse themselves in technique classes, workshops and a final showcase presentation all focused on developing what it takes to be successful as a musical theatre artist. If you are a young 12-20 year old who loves musical theatre and dreams of performing for the rest of your life, you should consider attending this program. Guest artists this year included: John Rua from broadway's Hamilton (check out this incredible original o'graphy movie!!), teaching 3 days of hip-hop workshops and choreographing for the showcase; Joshua Bergasse - Tony nominated (Charlie...Chocolate Factory) and Emmy award winning (Smash) choreographer who taught the audition combination for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and gave a wonderful Q&A talk back with the parents and students about navigating the dance waters of NYC; Benton Whitley of Stuart/Whitley Casting - Benton gave a wonderful workshop on the vocal/acting audition and a Q&A emphasizing finding and revealing your unique YOU qualities. What a fabulous 3 weeks of great teaching, great talent and great Broadway!! |
